Advertising Art & Design students use their artistic talents to paint festive window designs within CPAVTS for the holiday season.  They also are designing and painting a rain barrel for Earth Day that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder in April, at the Earth Day Festival, in Mechanicsburg.  Social Studies students wrote letters for Veterans Day to patients at the VA Hospital in Lebanon, PA.  This is the sixth consecutive year Mrs. Franson’s class has participated, and they have cumulatively sent about 1,000 letters to the VA. 

In the HVAC program, students worked all fall to grow their beards out for “No Shave November”!  This was an exclusive competition between the AM and PM program.  The AM ultimately won, but combined they sent $220 to the Ronald McDonald house!  AM students prize was an ultimate Thanksgiving feast prepared by their instructor.  Instructional Assistants at CPAVTS are packing up snack food items for students who are financially disadvantaged for the holiday season to make sure they will have full bellies.

Our health related programs sure tackled charity cheer this holiday season! Dental students collected non-perishable items for the Ronald McDonald House while Nursing students each adopted a nursing home resident after receiving a list of necessities from Stonebridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.  Over 100 items were collected and it took multiple trips for delivery.  Students also made fleece blankets for residents.  The Emerging Health Professionals program is new this school year, but students made holiday cards and distributed to residents at Kinkora Pythian Home. 

Electrical Construction students made a donation barrel and advertised a collection for Toys for Tots.  Items were dropped off just in time for the Toys for Tots parade in Camp Hill, PA.  Cosmetology students offered free clinic services for a life skills class at one of CPAVTS sending school districts.  Culinary students were busy preparing holiday feasts for various organizations, but Messiah Lifeways was able to enjoy an exclusive luncheon prepared by the Culinary team. 

Horticulture students were busy as ever, making greens and holiday décor, but still managing to squeeze in time for Messiah Lifeways residents to visit, and make a succulent arrangement for their room.  Masonry and Carpentry spent several cold November and December days at the Army Heritage Center constructing a structure for educational uses.  Auto Collison sand blasted, prepped, and painted steel brackets for the Army Heritage construction project. 

Welding students construct and repair the CPAVTS snow removal equipment for the winter season all while Diesel Technology services and maintains the school utility, and off road vehicles and equipment.  Automotive also has a hand in maintaining and inspecting the school vehicles and assisting staff with vehicle emergency services.  Precision Machine manufactures holiday ornaments and all the proceeds collected are donated to Bikers Against Child Abuse.

Logistics students can be seen picking, packing, and shipping out all the apparel orders for the 52 Goodwill Keystone Area locations throughout PA.  Computer Networking students assist the IT department at CPAVTS with tasks of laptop cart organization, imaging hard drives, and computer cleaning.  Automation, Robotics, and Electronics is fairly new to CPAVTS, although they have already began repairing a hazardous environmental robot for another vocational school and repair the vending machine for staff snacks. 

Computer Programming students have the edge on technology, and create or spruce-up websites for local business owners.  Early Childhood students collected pajamas for local shelter groups through Scholastic Books, who generously matched every item with a book for a child.  Criminal Justice students direct traffic, secure parking lots, and assist guests for CPAVTS evening events, but are ready for the spring when they coordinate the Safety Day extravaganza held at CPAVTS annually.
