About Mr. Champion
I graduated from BloomsburgUniversity in 1993 with a degree in English, and a teaching certificate for English from PennState a year later. What am I doing teaching computers? Read on…
In 1995, I was hired by PSINet to support Macintosh and Windows 3.11 customers on the InterRamp and Pipeline USA products. 18 months later, MindSpring, a then-small company bought all of the InterRamp and Pipeline consumer customers – along with all of the consumer support employees! Within another 6 months, I became a team leader, what MindSpring called a “coach” (support employees were called “sports”). Nothing lasts forever, and as MindSpring’s business philosophy changed from customer-oriented to profit-oriented (soon after coming out of the red), I left.
In 1997, I was recruited away to help create a support and customer service center for a startup ISP, BlazeNet. BlazeNet, a media division of the pottery company Pfaltzgraff (long story), grew exponentially and within 18 months the demands of the job began to affect my personal and career goals.
In 1999, I left BlazeNet to work as a Network Support Engineer for a small, family-owned company called digitalSunrise. It was with digitalSunrise that I acquired my MCP, MCSE, Network+, CCNA, and CCDA Certifications. This alphabet soup of industry recognition not only proved I could take tests, but that I was qualified to support digitalSunrise’s more important customers. Pairing my support experience on the Macintosh platform with my Microsoft Certifications, I found myself working with printing companies, newspapers, and design firms – places that traditionally had artists and businesspeople working in the same office. Unfortunately, the troubling times that 2001 brought to Information Technology affected digitalSunrise and when I saw the opportunity to teach (remember the first paragraph?) advertised in a newspaper posting, I jumped at the chance
I have been with Cumberland-Perry AVTS ever since. I think that the students appreciate my experience, and I know they appreciate my passion for teaching. I really enjoy teaching with technology - something the Principal of Cumberland-Perry AVTS recognized me for in 2004 by naming me a Pennsylvania Keystone Technology Integrator. I am proud to represent Cumberland-Perry AVTS and to act as an advocate for technology in teaching and learning.
I also have a Master's of Science Degree in Education from Walden University (http://www.waldenu.edu) in "Integrating Technology into the Curriculum". You can check out my Keystone Application Video by clicking on the link below (Quicktime Required).
