General Overview of Advanced Standing Through Articulation Agreements and Industry Certification
Each of the approved career and technical education programs has unique characteristics. Our school-wide goal, however, for each program is to offer students the most vallue added through enrollment. This means that studnets will have the opportunity to achieve a variety of industry certifications which will translate directly into higher wages immediately upon entering the workforce. Some post-secondary institutions will offer advance standing to those students who enroll and who have earned industry certification. The unique characteristics of each program at CPAVTS also means that each program provides opportunities through Articulation Agreements to earn college credit at post-secondary institutions when they enroll in a program related to the secondary program that they completed at CPAVTS. The award of college credits may be through one of three programs called College in the High School, Tech Prep, or Articulated Credits.
College in the High School (CHS) credits are awarded by HACC on a regular college transcript and may be transferred to any state-related post-secondary institution. The process the student will follow to have these credits transferred to the school that they are attending will be identified by that post-secondary school. In other words, if a student attends Pennsylvania College of Technology, the Admissions Office at Pennsylvania College of Technology will determine the process to transfer those credits.
Tech Prep means that the student will complete core academic courses while in high school that will not be repeated in post-secondary school. Most of the Tech Prep agreements that CPAVTS has entered into are with the Harrisburg Area Community College. In many cases, students are able to earn between 3 and 15 college credits at HACC simply by demonstrating through their grades, teacher verification or NOCTI test scores that they have mastered the content of their career and technical program while they were enrolled at CPAVTS. The process for awarding Tech Prep credits is identified by the post-secondary school in which the student enrolls after high school.
Articulated Credits are credits that are earned at a specific post-secondary school. They are identified in an agreement between CPAVTS and the specific post-secondary school.
